About Magic of Harmony Show Chorus
Magic of Harmony Show Chorus is a membership organization of female singers, who meet regularly to practice, perform, socialize, and have fun. Through the years, membership has varied from 15 – 50 singers of all ages, all walks of life, and all parts of the Hampton Roads area.
Affiliation
Magic of Harmony Show Chorus was founded and organized in Williamsburg, Virginia as Publick Times Chorus, and became an official chapter of Sweet Adelines International on July 23, 1973. We became known as the Magic of Harmony Show Chorus in April 2012. Today we are chartered in Newport News Virginia. Sweet Adelines International is a non-profit organization of approximately 30,000 members in choruses and quartets, worldwide. The Headquarters is in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Performance
Our great joy is sharing our original American art form with the public. We entertain throughout the Hampton Roads area at conventions, benefits, local festivals, for civic organizations and senior living centers. Our year is highlighted with an annual show. We are available to sing at your next function or event. If you are looking for a unique musical experience to liven up your event, please contact us.
Education
In addition to sharing our music with others, another great passion of ours is learning more about the art of a cappella singing in the “Barbershop” style. Vocal instruction is a regular part of chorus rehearsals, and a very important component of the chorus experience. A couple of times a year, we will get coaching from a visiting master in the art of barbershop, where we learn many fabulous tricks of the trade. We pride ourselves on the quality of our performance skills and through competitions have a way to measure our musical growth.
Competition
Magic of Harmony Show Chorus is located within Region 14 of Sweet Adelines, Intl. In the spring of every year, Region 14 holds a chorus competition. Competitions are a special time for quartets and choruses from our region to come together to sing for each other, and get some constructive feedback from a panel of judges by competing in either the International Division or the Open Division. The 2024 Region 14 Contest will be held March 21 – 24 in Charlotte/Concord NC.
In the Open Division at competition, choruses perform an entertainment package complete with a scripted story line and songs. In 2015, Magic of Harmony Show Chorus competed in this Division and won the Audience Choice Award!
The winners of the International Division of regional competition in both quartet and chorus categories travel to the selected city in the fall for the Sweet Adelines International Convention to compete for the Overall Championship. The 2024 International Competition will be held October 28 – November 2 in Kansas City MO.
